Qualifying Begins at Southeast Regional Championships

Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The Omni Hotels Southeast Regional Championships held qualifying matches on Thursday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Senior Katrina Gildemeister qualified for singles competition. In the first round of qualifying play, she defeated Paige Eber (UL) 6-0, 6-3. She moved on to meet Mary Neill Hagood (Furman), who she dropped 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). Gildemeister will face Monica Gonzalez-Gordo (UM) Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the first round.
Jackie Leskovar will also see singles action, facing Tamara Sutton (USC).
Gildemeister and Leskovar will see doubles action tomorrow as well. Gildemeister, paired With Kristen Nicholls, defeated Coleman/Whisenhunt (WOFF) 9-7 to move on to afternoon play. The tandem of Leskovar and Jennifer Jassawalla also moved to the second round. Leskovar/Jassawalla defeated Louisville's Paige Eber and Marianna Torres 8-1.
Nicholls and Jassawalla were both defeated in singles play.
Altogether, 96 singles players and 64 doubles teams, representing 28 schools from four states began competition Thursday for the right to advance to the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas from Nov. 8-11.
Friday's action begins at 8:00 a.m. with first-round singles play. The second round of doubles action will begin at 2:00 p.m.
