Lewis Records First Triple-Double in School History
RALEIGH, NC (Jan. 29, 2001) -- NC State snapped its four-game losing streak with a convincing 85-66 victory over Florida State. The Wolfpack fired a season-high 60.3 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Seminoles 42-25. The victory avenged an earlier loss to Florida State 74-70 at Tallahassee.
"We were really focused out there and played with intensity," said NC State head coach Kay Yow. "They really put it all out tonight and played hard. That is the type of team that people want to come out and see."
Senior guard Tynesha Lewis, who started at the point guard slot for the Pack, posted the first triple-double in school history with 10 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds. She becomes the first Wolfpack, male or female, to achieve the prestigious milestone.
"To get a triple-double in a system like ours really is a great honor for any player," commented Yow on Lewis' achievement.
"It's (triple double) a great honor," said Lewis. "But I was more focused on getting the win."
Teammates Carisse Moody and Ivy Gardner each scored career highs with 29 and 21 points respectively. Moody, a 6-1 sophomore, hit 13 of 15 attempts from the floor while Gardner nailed eight of 10 shots.
After holding a 37-33 advantage at the half, NC State went on a 9-0 run to open the second half and increase its lead to 13. Florida State could get no closer than eight points as the Wolfpack closed out the win.
NC State's defense held April Traylor, Florida State's leading scorer, to a season-low two points. Brooke Wyckoff led the Seminoles with 23 points while teammates Levys Torres and Katelyn Vujas each chipped in 12.
With the win, NC State improves to 12-8 overall and 3-6 in ACC action. Florida State falls to 12-7 and 4-5 in league play. The Wolfpack return to action Thursday night with an ACC matchup against Virginia at Reynolds Coliseum at 7 p.m.
