Cotten (6-2, 245 lbs.), who was a two-year starter for the Wolfpack, is expected to add quality depth to the fullback/linebacker position. He is slated to split time with fellow fullback/linebacker's Bo Kelly and Alan Campos. The Cobras currently hold the AFL's No. 2 rushing offense, netting 39.3 yards per game.
"We were more than happy to accommodate Bobbie on his desire to finish school before joining the team full-time," Cobras coach Doug Kay said.
Cotten played his last season for the Wolfpack in 1998, starting all 12 contests at defensive end with 36 tackles (24 solo), three sacks, a team-leading nine quarterback pressures and five tackles for loss. He signed a free agent contract with the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999 but was waived after suffering an injury during training camp.
He finished his four-year N.C. State career (1995-98) with 152 tackles (89 solo/63 assists), 28 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 22 quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception.
