McPhaul Finishes Second At North Carolina Amateur Golf Tournament

Simson, a multi-time winner of the North & South Amateur and Carolinas Mid-Amateur, shot a 1-over-par 73 to take first place with a four-day total of 5-under 283.
Press McPhaul, an assistant golf coach at North Carolina State tied with Simson after the third round, shot a 75 June 18 and finished in a second-place tie with Kem Rodgers of Mooresville at 285.
Chad Wilfong of Thomasville tied for fourth at 286, while Sean Dougherty fired a final-round best 68 to finish fifth at 287.
Chris Mundorf, the leader after the first two rounds and a member of McPhaul's team at N.C. State, struggled with a 77 on June 18 and finished tied for eighth. The championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
