It's the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. For golf enthusiasts, that about says it all. Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, David Duval and Tom Watson will be among the great players who will tee it up in today's first round.
Mark Slawter will be there to.
Slawter, a 1994 All-American at NC State, will take his swings at Pebble Beach. The Raleigh resident will be paired with Chris Tidland and Javier Sanchez for the opening round.
This will mark Slawter's second consecutive appearance in the Open. He was on hand last year when the tournament was played at Pinehurst No. 2.
Pebble Beach, which runs along the rocky cliffs of the Monterey Peninsula in California, has hosted the U.S. Open on three previous occasions: Nicklaus won there in 1972; Watson prevailed in 1982; Tom Kite captured the '92 Championship at Pebble.
