NC State Defeats Maryland in Men's Tennis, 4-0

COLLEGE PARK, MD (April 9) -- The University of Maryland's men's tennis team played only four matches in today's loss to NC State, 4-0. High winds and cold temperatures caused the team to play indoors; however due to a scheduling conflict, the match was delayed four hours. The victory improves the Pack's record to 10-13 overall and 1-5 in the ACC while Maryland falls to 2-9 on the season and 0-6 in conference action.

NC State's great doubles play helped them jump out to an early 1-0 lead as they swept all three matches. The senior combination of Keith Salmon and Shaun Thomas teamed up for an easy 8-3 victory over Maryland's No. 1 doubles tandem of Peter Harjes and Chris Chiu. The Pack's two other groupings of Brad Kilgore and Brian Cowman along with Jeff Smith and Ryan Boward also scored easy victories on the day.

The Pack then tallied three quick singles victories to clinch the dual match, 4-0. Salmon, Jeff Smith and Boward captured the victories at the No.1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots respectively.

NC State will have off again until Friday when they travel to Winston-Salmen to take on ACC foe Wake Forest at 3:00 pm. The Pack's last regular season match will take place on Sunday versus the 35th ranked Clemson Tigers at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex. That match is set to begin at 2:30 pm.
