NC State Baseball Falls To Miami, 19-1

NC State scored its lone run on a leadoff home run by Chris goodman in the bottom of the seventh inning. The homer was Goodman's first of the season.
Miami improved to 28-13-1 with the win, while the Wolfpack dropped to 24-21. Walker allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out five in improving to 7-2 on the season. Josh Schmitt (1-2), making his first start for NC State, took the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out six.
The Hurricanes scored in all but two innings, jumping to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Javy Rodriguez homered with one out, his fourth long ball of the season. The Canes made it 3-0 in the third on a run-scoring error and an RBI double by Lale Esquivel.
Miami made it 6-0 with three in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Kevin Mannix, an RBI single by Mike Rodriguez and an RBI double by Howard. Esquivel led off the fifth with a walk and scored all the way from first on a fielding error by the Wolfpack to make it 7-0.
The game became a blowout during Miami's six-run sixth inning. Howard drove in a run with a triple, and Esquivel followed one out later with a two-run homer, his 13th of the season. Manny Crespo followed with a double and scored on Javy Rodriguez's RBI single. Mannix walked, and Michael DiRosa drove in two more runs with a single to make it 13-0.
Howard singled in a run in the eighth to make it 14-0, and the Canes added five more in the ninth on an RBI single by Mannix, a bases-loaded walk to Greg Lovelady, a two-run double by Howard, and a run-scoring error, the Wolfpack's fifth error of the game.
