NC State Grabs Three Shot Lead at ACC Golf Tournament

BADIN LAKE, NC (April 21, 2000) -- All five golfers in the NC State lineup shot even par or better as the 16th-ranked Wolfpack jumped out to a three stroke lead after the first round at the ACC Men's Golf Championships being held at Old North State Golf Club in Badin Lake, N.C. NC State fired a four-under par 284 in windy conditions to lead top-ranked Georgia Tech by three shots and the nation's number two team, Clemson, by six strokes.
Only seven golfers carded sub-par rounds in the blustery conditions, three of which were carrying an NC State bag.
Wolfpack co-captain Carl Pettersson stands atop the leaderboard, tied with Clemson's John Engler. Both players fired a two-under par 70 to lead the field.
Chris Mundorf and David Sanchez both shot 71 for the Wolfpack to stand tied at third place on the leaderboard. NC State's Mark Tullo and Marc Turnesa both carded an even-par 72 to round out the Wolfpack scoring.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday with another 18-hole round of competition. NC State will be paired with Georgia Tech and Clemson. The three leaders will be the last group of the day to tee off, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The final round of the tournament will be held Sunday morning at Old North State.
