4/15/2000 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
Chris Wisler of East Tennessee State won the individual title with a tournament record 10-under par 206. Wisler fired three rounds in the 60's = 69-68-69. The previous tournament record 54-hole score was 209 held by Carl Paulson of South Carolina (1993) and Chris Couch of Florida (1995). Tulsa's Martin Maritz was five shots back at 211. Carl Pettersson of NC State finished tied for third at 214 while teammate Chris Mundorf was one shot back at 215 to finish tied for fifth. After shooting 75 in the first two rounds, Mundorf fired a tournament low 65 in the final round on Saturday. His 65 was the second lowest 18-total in tournament history. NC State's Kelly Mitchum fired a 64 in 1992 to set the 18-hole tourney record. Mundorf's 65 does set the tournament record for lowest final round score.
NC State hopes its strong showing at The Intercollegiate will carry over to next weekend, April 21-22, when the ACC Championships are held at Old North State C.C. in Badin Lake, N.C.
