Coach Yow Receives U.S. Flag Honor

That same flag was recently presented to Coach Kay Yow , by U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms. On Friday, April 7, this special flag was flown at the NC State Memorial Belltower in honor of Kay Yow's 25 years at NC State.
A native of Gibsonville, Yow has amassed more than 500 wins at the helm of the NC State women's basketball program. Under her leadership, NC State has reached the finals in 11 of the 21 ACC tournaments and captured the league title in 1980, 1985, 1987, and 1991.
She has been selected for induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She is also one of the most honored coaches in international circles. During her career, she has worked with two United State Olympic Teams and seven other U.S. select teams, including Pan American, World University and World Championship squads. In 1988, she guided the U.S. Olympic Team, which also brought home a gold medal.
Yow received her bachelor's degree in English from East Carolina University in 1964, and her master's degree in Physical education from UNC-Greensboro in 1982.
