Baseball Tonight: NC State Hosts High Point
4/11/2000 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
The Wolfpack leads the overall series with High Point 12-10, but tonight's meeting is the first between the two schools since the Wolfpack handed the Panthers a 7-1 defeat in 1984. High Point's last win in the series came the year before.
Perhaps the most significant game in the series was in 1980, when NC State pounded High Point 28-3. The Pack's offensive output set a school record for runs in a game. That mark held up for four years. In 1984, NC State blew out Wake Forest 29-10.
Mike Sollie (3-4, 4.53) will get the start for NC State tonight. Sollie's last start was April 1 vs. Georgia Tech. He was charged with seven runs, three of which were earned. He also gave up ten hits, walked none and struck out four. For the season, Sollie has made 12 appearances; nine of them starts, and has allowed 71 hits, walked 10 and struck out 33 in 51 2/3 innings.
High Point's pitching plans for tonight are unknown at this time.
The Wolfpack will return to the Doak for another non-league affair on Wednesday, April 12, when Old Dominion comes in for a visit.
