First Day of Adidas Raleigh Relays Wraps Up

Raleigh, N.C. (March 31)-- The NC State track & field team is hosting the annual Adidas Raleigh Relays this weekend with over 100 different schools and clubs participating. Over 2,000 athletes will be competing in the meet held at NC State's Paul Derr Track.
The action began Friday afternoon, with final results coming from the 400 meters, 400 meter hurdles, 4x1500 relays, sprint medley relays, discus, high jump, long jump, and the men's pole vault.
For NC State, Freshman Kristin Pace took second place in the high jump with a leap of 5*10.50". The Pack's 4x1,500 meter relay team, consisting of Megan Coombs, Molly Purser, Yvonne Downing, and Katie Sabino, finished in third place with a time of 18:42.45. The Pack's other top-10 finish belonged to Crystal Broxton who placed seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.03, and also qualifies her for the finals tomorrow. Freshman Jessica Hawkins, who played for the Wolfpack women's basketball team this past season, took 12th in her first collegiate meet in the discus with a mark of 136*11".
On the men's side, Zack Whitlow had the Pack's highest finish on the day as he tied for second on the pole vault with a mark of 15*07". Two other Pack members had top-10 finishes, as Isaiah Oglesby took sixth in the discus with a toss of 160*00", and Tryone Dozier placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 47.28. Other top results saw Eric Fonville finish 12th in the high jump (6*06.75"), Joseph Brent place 17th in the 100 meters (10.94), and Oliver Gatchalain place 17th in the 400 hurdles (54.10).
A total of four Raleigh Relay records were broken on the first day of competition. In the men's 4x1,500 meters relay, Reebok Enclave consisting of Ted Towle, Mark Sivieni, Sam Gabremanian, and Matt Hulthaus took first with a new best time of 15:13.47. Michelle Collins, running for Sprint Capitol, broke her own record in the 400 meters with a time of 51.30. Latasha Colander, who also runs for Sprint Capitol set a new record with a time of 57.21 in the 400 meter hurdles. The fourth new record went to Roberta Collins with a mark of 175*05" in the discus throw.
The 2000 Adidas Raleigh Relays will wrap up tomorrow afternoon. The field events begin at 10:00 a.m., and the track events will begin with the women's 3,000 meters at 10:30 a.m.
