The Tar Heels (7-8, 2-2 ACC) swept all six singles matches to win their second straight contest and pull even with Clemson for fourth place in the ACC. Carolina is now 29-3 all-time against the Wolfpack (4-9, 0-5).
Junior Courtney Zalinski preserved the shutout and improved to 4-0 in ACC dual-match play by virtue of her come-from-behind victory over the State's Kristin Nicholls at No. 4 singles (3-6, 6-2, 7-5).
Also posting big wins were senior Jessica Zaganczyk, who set the tone for the match with a 6-1, 6-2 trouncing of Loni Worsley at No. 2, and junior Kristin Koenig, who also dominated her opponent, downing Landis Strader 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
N.C. State's Francie Barrigan was forced to withdraw due to injury from her No. 1 singles match against Tar Heel freshman Marlene Mejia. Mejia, who was leading the first set 3-1, was awarded the victory when Barrigan retired.
With the match already decided, doubles were not played.
The Wolfpack will resume action this weekend when they travel up to the state of Virginia to take on Richmond on Saturday and Old Domnion on Sunday.
