NC State (20-8) was named the fifth seed in the Midwest Region and will face Southern Methodist (21-8), seeded 12th as the runners-up of the Western Athletic Conference, March 18th in Norfolk, Va. Game time is 6 p.m.
Tickets for the NC State women's basketball NCAA Tournament games to be played in Norfolk, Va., on March 18 and 20, can be purchase through the NC State Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-310-PACK or 515-2106.
NC State Coach Kay Yow on her 15th NCAA Tournament berth:
"We are excited to be making our 6th straight trip to the NCAAs. This is
a first for our seven freshmen so we will need strong leadership from our
upperclassmen.
"We don't know anything about SMU, but we will start watching film on them tonight and begin preparations in practice tomorrow.
"We are approaching this as a two-game tourney, we'll take it one game at a time and worry about winning these first two games and advancing to the Sweet Sixteen before looking at anything else.
"You never know what can happen in tourney time. There is a lot of parody and it depends on who gets hot and on a roll in the tournament.
On All-American center Summer Erb returning to lineup:
"Having Summer (Erb) back on the court is a big boost for us. We missed
her leadership as well as her play."
On playing in subregional at Norfolk, Va:
"Our fans will be excited that since we aren't hosting, we are playing
somewhere close enough where they can go to our games. It will be a boost
to our team to be able to have fan support in the NCAA subregional."
NC State senior Summer Erb:
"I'm excited to be back and look forward to getting back out on the
court again. It has been tough to have to sit on the bench and watch.
"I think we are in a good bracket. Norfolk is only a few hours away so
we hope to get good fan support.
"Our team needs to understand the concept of one game and done in the
NCAAs. We need to leave everything we have out on the court."
Erb has missed the last seven games with three broken bones in her left foot. The Wolfpack is 3-4 without her. Erb has been working out on the bike, treadmill and in the pool as well as lifting weights and shooting basketball. She meets with doctors again Monday morning and is expected to be cleared to practice.
