Gymnastics Team Competes at Governor's Cup

The 23rd-ranked Terrapins, now 7-3 on the season, set a school record with their 195.95 team score. The 22nd-ranked Tigers, now 5-3, had a seasonal high 194.775 score. The two schools from the state of Maryland had a two-team total of 390.725 while the University of North Carolina (191.525) and North Carolina State (193.75) teamed up for a 385.275 score.
It marked the fourth time in five years that the state of Maryland won the Governor's Cup.
Fisher, a transfer from the University of Massachusetts, became the first Maryland gymnast to ever record a perfect 10.0 when she finished first on the floor exercise.
Sophomores Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) of Maryland finished one-two in the all-around competition. Cote won the all-around with a 39.325 score while Moon was second with a 39.225 score.
Junior Gabi Weller (Heuchelheim, Germany) of Towson took first place in the vault with a 9.95 score. However, she left the meet suffering from the flu after her bars routine.
On the bars, junior Amy Langendorf (Gambrills, Md.) of North Carolina State took first place on the bars with a 9.90 score while Moon was second with a 9.85.
Freshman Jenn Baierlein (Levittown, N.Y.) of Towson took first place on the balance beam as she tied the school record with a 9.9 score. Baierlein also finished third on floor with a 9.925 score and took fourth in the all-around with a 38.725 score.
Senior Heather Hanson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) of Towson tied the school record on floor exercise for the second meet in a row as took second with a 9.95 score behind Fisher's perfect 10.0.
In winning the all-around, Cote had a 9.775 in vault, a 9.825 on bars, a 9.8 on beam and a 9.925 on floor, tying Baierlein for third place. Junior Brooke Wilson (Sumter, S.C.) of North Carolina took third in the all-around with a 38.85 while Langendorf led N.C. State with a 38.15 all-around score.
