NC State freshman Loni Worsley has been named the women's tennis
player of the week for the week of 2/21 to 2/17. Worsley was honored
because of her hard work during the week of practice and also for her never
say die attitude as she battled back from a 1-5 deficit in the third set to
win the No. 2 singles match against Christine Weber of UNC Greensboro 3-6,
7-5, 7-5. Her match was a key win for the Wolfpack as it gave them a 4-2
advantage going into the doubles matches. This was only her second match
of the season playing in the No. 2 spot.
"I'd say that Loni's win deflated their tires," said Coach Speerschneider. Worsley then teamed with senior Francie Barragan at No. 2 doubles to defeat Eutzler/Weber, 8-5, leading the way for at 7-2 victory for the Pack.
The women's tennis team will be in action this Saturday when they host the Georgia State Panthers at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex beginning at noon.
