"Chris Demarest is an up-and-coming young coach who has worked with some of the top secondary coaches in the nation," said Amato. "He has a great deal of experience at different programs, and he learned a great deal over the last two years working at Florida State. We're excited to have him join us."
Demarest joined the Seminole program after three years coaching the defensive backs and punt team at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. He also had one-year stints as an assistant coach at Millersville University and East Stroudsberg University. Prior to his time at East Stroudsberg, Demarest spent the 1991 and 1992 seasons coaching the defensive line at his alma mater, Northeastern University. In 1990, he worked as a volunteer assistant coach at East Carolina and he spent the 1989 season as a graduate assistant at Rutgers.
A native of Keyport, N.J., Demarest attended St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J. He earned a B.S. in business administration from Northeastern in 1988, where he played football from 1983-87, earning first-team All-New England honors as a defensive back. He was also an NCAA I-AA honorable mention All-American for the Huskies. He spent the 1988 season as a free agent signee with the Washington Redskins.
