Wolfpack Women fall to Duke, 70-64

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) (February 17, 2000) -- Talisha Scates led the Wolfpack with 14 points, but No. 14 Duke beat No. 7 North Carolina State (20-5, 11-3) 70-64 on Feb. 17 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke led 52-34 midway through the second half before the Wolfpack went on a 14-4 run.
Consecutive 3-pointers by Amelia Labrador and Amy Simpson pulled N.C. State within one at 55-54 with 4:12 to play.
Krista Gingrich scored 19 points and was 3-of-7 from 3-point range, including a 23-footer with 1:08 left that gave Duke a 66-58 lead.
Sheanna Mosch added a career-high 16 points, and Georgia Schweitzer had 14 for Duke (21-4 overall, 10-3 ACC).
Lauren Rice scored 12 points and made four straight free throws in the final 21 seconds to ice the win. She also had 12 rebounds for the fourth double-double of her career.
Duke led 61-58 after Labrador made one of two free throws with 1:47 to play, but got some breathing room with Gingrich's last 3-pointer and went 6-for-6 at the line in the final 1:46.
