McPherson Pitches The Citadel Past NC State, 2-1

McPherson, who improved to 1-0 with the win, outdueled NC State's Ryan Combs, who allowed just two runs on seven hits in six innings. Combs walked two and struck out one. The touch-luck loss was his first decision of the season. The Citadel improved to 2-0 with the victory, while the Wolfpack fell to 0-2.
The Bulldogs drew first blood on back-to-back one-out doubles by Tavy Smalls and Stuart Jordan in the bottom of the first inning. NC State tied the score at 1-1 on Jeremy Dutton's one-out RBI doublein the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs immediately broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning. Philip Hartig and Daryl Byrd led off with singles and moved up to second and third on McPherson's sacrifice bunt. Harris, up next, hit a grounder to shortstop to drive in the go-ahead run.
The Wolfpack continued to get good pitching even after Combs left the game. Freshman lefthander Mike Prochaska tossed a pair of scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. He did not issue a walk.
