RALEIGH, N.C. - Two days after upsetting No. 8 Texas Tech, 59-51, in the Secret Four in the Fall in Austin, NC State's women's basketball team earned some national respect, making huge leaps in both national polls. The Wolfpack moved up eight spots in the Associated Press poll, jumping from No. 21 to No. 13. In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, NC State moved up five spots to No. 15.
The Wolfpack are currently 7-1 on the season, despite being without the services of starting center Kaayla Chones. The 6-3 sophomore is the team's top returning scorer and rebounder and has missed all eight games due to a partial tear of the quadricep tendon in her left knee. Terah James, who started all 29 games last year at point guard, is still out following ACL reconstructive surgery on her right knee. Both are expected to return to action later this month.
NC State's next game is Dec. 21 against East Carolina. Wolfpack coach Kay Yow is currently only four wins shy of her 600th career victory.
