RALEIGH, N.C. -- Former NC State guard Nate McMillan was named as the interim head coach of
the Seattle Supersonics on Monday after the NBA team made the decision to
fire Paul Westphal.
The dismissal comes on the heels of a 6-9 start this season.
Mcmillan, one of the most popular players in Sonics history, starred at NC State from 1985-86. The Raleigh native led the ACC in steals with 90 in 1986.
McMillan becomes the second former Wolfpack guard to take over an NBA team this year. Sidney Lowe, who helped NC State win a national title in 1983, was hired as the head coach of Vancouver Grizzlies last summer.
