Women's Basketball Downs NIU in Wahine Classic

"I thought our defense was strong today which gave us some opportunities on the other end of the floor," commented NC State Coach Yow. "We basically played two units, subbing five at a time which allowed us to have fresh people in the game and increase our defensive intensity."
The Wolfpack held Northern Illinois to 26 percent from the floor, including holding the Huskies top scorer, Kristan Knake, to 0-12 for the game. NC State also forced 17 turnovers and recorded seven blocked shots.
Senior Tynesha Lewis led NC State with 14 points, three assists a rebound, a steal and a blocked shot in 27 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Carisse Moody earned her first career start today and posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pack shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the game and outrebounded NIU 41-28. NC State also had a strong showing from the free throw line, connecting on 21 of 29 attempts for 72.4 percent.
Freshman Adeola Olanrewaju connected on seven of seven free throws on her way to a career-high 11 points in addition to her six rebounds. Amelia Labador, playing in front of family members that reside in Hawaii, hit four of five field goals to score a career-high nine points. Christen Greene recorded a career-high five blocked shots in the contest.
The Wolfpack Women will face the winner of the Michigan-Arkansas game at 8:30 p.m. EST on Saturday. The winner of that game will advance to Sunday's championship game which will also tip at 8:30 p.m.
