After holding a three-point lead at halftime, the Ducks opened the second half with a 9-2 to extend it's margin to 10. The Wolfpack battled back with a 17-6 run late in the game to take a 47-46 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Kourtney Shreve made a layup and hit two free throws in the final minutes to give Oregon the 50-47 win. NC State had back-to-back three-point attempts rattled off the rim.
"We gave a great effort on the court today," said NC State coach Kay Yow. " We were definitely outsized, but our hustle enabled us to hold them to 50 points."
On a snowy day in Raleigh, NC State's shooting was just as cold as the Wolfpack connected on only 15 of 54 field goals (27.8%). Oregon hit 44.2 percent of its attempts. The Pack outrebounded the Ducks 40-28 and forced 24 turnovers, but couldn't connect on the offensive end.
"When you shoot 28 percent from the field, its amazing to be in the game," stated Yow. "We had to play a whale of a defensive game. But we've just got to shoot the ball better." Carisse Moody led NC State with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. The sophomore forward from Rocky Mount connected on 5 of 11 field goals and 7 of 10 from the charity stripe. Monica Bates contributed nine points and six rebounds and freshman point guard Nanna Rivers added eight points.
"Carisse hung in there and played a great game for us today," said Yow. "And I thought Nanna really stepped her game up, played well defensively and scored some big baskets. She was certainly a key to our comeback in the second half."
Angelina Wolvert led Oregon with 22 points and guard Jamie Craighead contributed 12 points including four three-pointers.
The Wolfpack head to Hawaii for the Thanksgiving break to compete in the Wahine Classic. The Pack will face Northern Illinois on Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the first round.
