The Seminoles (7-5, 0-2 ACC), behind April Traylor's 23 points, erased a 12-point deficit in the second half, tying the game 58-58 before fading down the stretch.
N.C. State's Summer Erb, held to six points and three rebounds, fouled out with 1:18 remaining. Levys Torres, fouled on the play, made both free throws to tie it 58-58.
Chones put the Wolfpack (13-0, 4-0) ahead 60-58 with a short jumper and Florida State failed to keep pace when Angela Sutton missed two free throws with 47 seconds remaining.
Coleman gave the Seminoles one more shot, tying up a loose ball after N.C. State's Terah James missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 23 seconds left. But Coleman couldn't handle a pass from Lakesha Springle on the next possession, and Lewis sealed the outcome with two foul shots with 4.5 seconds remaining.
Brooke Wyckoff had 12 points and six rebounds for the Seminoles.
Traylor scored 11 points in a 16-4 run that tied the score at 56-56.
