#3 NC State (14-1, 5-1) vs. Virginia (12-4, 4-1) January 17, 2000 ' 7:30 p.m. Reynolds Coliseum - Raleigh, N.C.
Monday's Contest: NC State is looking to rebound from its first loss of the sesaon after opening the year with a school record 14 straight wins. NC State's previous best start was 10-0 which was accomplished in the 1990-91 season and again in the 1997-98 season when the Wolfpack advanced to the NCAA Final Four. The 1984-85 Wolfpack squad reeled off 15 consecutive wins late in the season. A key to the game will be how the Wolfpack Women will respond to the 15-point loss Thursday night at Clemson, the defending ACC champions. This will be the 49th meeting between these two perennial powers. Virginia stands as the only ACC team to lead the overall series with the Wolfpack, holding a slim 25-23 advantage. A year ago, the Wahoos won both contests by 14 points. Both of these teams have a balanced scoring attack with three players each that average double figures on the season.
Scouting Virginia:
The Cavaliers only have one starter off last year's 20-9 team, but are playing well so far this year. Virginia has won its last eight games. Earlier in the season, preseason first team All-ACC guard Erin Stovall left the team for personal reasons. Virginia is the best shooting team in the league, averaging 46 percent per outing. The Cavs also rank second in free throw percentage at 72.1 percent.
