RALEIGH, N.C. (January 13, 2000) - NC State men's tennis coach, Eric Hayes, announced today that Matt Lucas has been added to his team's spring 2000 roster. Lucas, a Boone, N.C. native, transferred from Appalachian State. While there, he performed in both No. 1 singles and doubles under Mountaineer head coach Dave Siddons.
Lucas, who comes to NC State with two seasons of eligibility remaining, was an outstanding player both at Appalachian State and in the Southern Conference. Among his many accolades, Lucas was named MVP of the Mountaineers both of seasons there (1998-99) and garnered Southern Conference Rookie of the Year honors in 1998.
Hayes was very pleased to welcome Lucas to NC State. "Matt is an outstanding player who will have an immediate impact in our line-up, both in singles and doubles competition," said Hayes. "Being able to have yet another of this state's excellent players on our squad is great! I am positive that Matt will be an important factor in our club making a return trip to the NCAA Tournament this season."
