Atlanta, GA -- (Sept. 7) NC State senior Summer Erb has been named a preseason candidate for the 1999-2000 Naismith Women's College Basketball Player of the Year Award as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
Last year, Erb was named the ACC Player of the Year after scoring a conference best 21.5 points per game and leading the league with 9.9 rebounds per contest. She posted career-highs of 36 points and 18 rebounds on two occasions last year.
"As the returning ACC Player of the Year and the leading scorer and rebounder in the ACC as a junior, I feel Summer is one of the strongest candidates in the country," said NC State head coach Kay Yow. "She plays in one of the toughest conferences and excels."
The candidates were selected by a vote of the Atlanta Tipoff Club*s Board of Selectors comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball analysts.
