Chones Named ACC Rookie of the Week

The 6-3 freshman forward/center contributed 10 points and eight rebounds in a 68-55 upset of then #4 Rutgers. She then posted back to back double-doubles against Southern Miss (14 points, 10 rebounds) and UNC Greensboro (19 points, 10 rebounds) and was named the Wolfpack Women Tournament MVP after leading the team to the title.
"Kaayla really had a great tournament," commented NC State Coach Kay Yow following Sunday's championship game. "She had double-doubles in games where she played 22 and 24 minutes respectively. To me that is the most impressive thing about her play."
Chones is currently leading the team in scoring with 14.3 points per contest and rebounding with 9.3 boards per game. She also had five steals and two blocked shots in the first three games of her collegiate career. NC State (3-0) is ranked #7 in the latest AP poll.
