Men's Tennis Finishes Strong At Host Tournament

Raleigh, NC (Oct. 19) -The NC State men's tennis squad had a strong showing this weekend at the Wolfpack Fall Invitational. Pack members Eric Jackson, Ryan Boward, Jagjeet Sandhu and Jeff Mullen all advanced to the finals in their singles flight brackets. Additionally, Devang Desai and Bryce McGroy looked impressive in the consolation brackets of their respective singles flights.
On Tuesday afternoon, Eric Jackson fell to Andres Madbrink of Campbell, 6-2, 7-5, in the finals of flight A singles action. The match, which had originally had been scheduled to be played on Sunday, was put on hold until Tuesday due to a conflict.
In the finals of the flight C singles, Ryan Boward defeated Shaun Krichlon of Hampton, 7-6, 6-4. Pack teammates Jagjeet Sandhu and Jeff Mullen met in the finals of flight D. Mullen eventually outlasted Sandhu by the score of 6-3, 6-2.
Both Devang Desai and Bryce McGroy rebounded from first round losses in their singles action to claim the consolation title. Desai knocked off Jaized Snyder, of American, 6-4, 6-4 in the flight A consolation final while; McGrory got past Peter Harjes of Maryland, 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 in the flight C consolation final.
Overall, NC State coach Eric Hayes was pleased with the outcome of the invitational. "The fall season is about getting better and stronger as a team. I think we did a great job this weekend, and I think that we'll continue to improve as the preseason moves on. I'm looking forward to the spring schedule with anticipation."
