Women's Tennis Action Begins At The South Carolina Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - NC State's Kristen Nicholls and Katrina Gildemeister advanced to the semifinals of the "C" Draw at the South Carolina Women's Tennis Invitational today at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Courts.
Nicholls', a sophomore, had a bye in the first round and then defeated Christy Travis of Florida State 6-2, 6-3. Gildemeister, also a sophomore, defeated Claudia Niet of South Florida 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 in her first round match-up and then defeated Beckett Hoyt of Louisville 6-0, 6-0.
In the "B" Draw, NC State's Brie Glover defeated Natalie Schwartz of South Florida 6-3, 6-4 in her first round match but lost to Megan Wise of Louisville 6-1, 6-2. The Wolfpack's Loni Worsley beat Elizabeth O. of William and Mary in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the first round but dropped her quarterfinal match to Jackie Houston of Wake Forest 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles action, Francie Barragan and Kristen Nicholls teamed up to advance to the finals after knocking off Claudia Neit and Jamie Larson of South Florida 8-6. Their quarterfinal bye allowed them to advance to the finals.
