General Information
- Father of modern-day NC State football.
- Played no more than four home games per season, and usually only three, in order to raise money for the replacement of Riddick Stadium.
- Carter Stadium was named for Harry Carter in 1966, but was built because of Edwards' work, success and sacrifice.
- Won NC State's first ACC football championship with 18 scholarship players (1957).
- Coached NC State to its first ever bowl victory, 14-7 over Georgia in 1967 Liberty Bowl.
- Guided NC State to 1963 and 1967 Liberty Bowls, and qualified for 1957 Orange Bowl, but was unable to participate because of basketball probation.
- Coached NC State to its highest ever football ranking, No. 2 on Nov. 1, 1967.
- Recruited and coached All-Americans Dick Christy, Roman Gabriel, Dennis Byrd, Don Montgomery, Fred Combs, Gerald Warren, Ron Carpenter, and Carey Metts.
- Only NC State coach to serve as President of America Football Coaches Association (1971).
