Pack has two in tonight’s NCAA Finals
Â
CLEVELAND, OHIO – With two NC State wrestlers set to compete in the NCAA Finals Saturday night, another pair of Wolfpack grapplers were in action in the medal rounds in the earlier session at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
Â
Coming in unseeded at 133 pounds, R-Fr. Tariq Wilson was one of the best stories of the entire tournament in upsetting three of the top-five seeds and placing third in his first trip to the NCAA Championships. In his two wins on Saturday, Wilson scored two major decisions.

MEDAL ROUND RECAP
133 Cons. Semi: Tariq Wilson (25-10) vs. Scott Delvecchio (Rutgers - 26-8)
• Unseeded R-Fr. Tariq Wilson came out aggressive, scoring four takedowns in the first period and advanced to the third place bout with a 13-3 major decision over Rutgers' Delvecchio. Wilson's first takedown came just eight seconds in, and his final one of the period also resulted in a two-point near fall, as Wilson was up 10-3 after the first period. Wilson then rode Delvecchio the entire second, and a third period takedown along with 4:16 of RT gave Wilson his second major decision win of the tournament.

• In a rematch of the final dual of the season, Sr. Kevin Jack was unable to score a late takedown and fell to #4 seed McKenna of Ohio State, 4-3. McKenna scored a first period takedown, but Jack got the reversal and after a McKenna escape it was his advantage at 3-2 after the first. Both wrestlers traded escapes in the next two periods, and that was the lone scoring the rest of the bout.
Â
133 3rd Place: Tariq Wilson (26-10) vs. #3 seed Luke Pletcher (Ohio State - 30-3)
• Wilson's great run came to an end with a third place finish as he scored a 17-8 major decision over #3 seed Pletcher of Ohio State. Wilson started strong once again, with a takedown in the first 20 seconds, but Pletcher answered and took a 3-2 lead into the second. Starting neutral, Wilson stuck a six-point move with a takedown and four-point near fall in the second that gave Wilson the 8-4 edge going to the third. Wilson added three more takedowns in the third for his second straight major decision over a top-five seed today. The win over Pletcher avenged a loss in the final dual of the season. Starting unseeded, Wilson went 5-1 during his run. In his run to third place, Wilson defeated three top-five seeds: #5 Erneste of Missouri (8-3), #4 seed Brock of Oklahoma State (13-5) and #3 seed Pletcher of Ohio State (17-8).

Jack fell in the fifth place bout to #8 seed Lee of Penn State in overtime, 9-7. Lee scored a pair of first period takedowns and was up 4-1 going into the third. Down 7-5 late in the third, Jack got a takedown with just 10 seconds left to force OT. Lee capped the win with the winning takedown 36 seconds into the extra period.
