Alex Kimura enters his first season as volunteer assistant coach with the NC State rifle team.
“I’m very thankful to Coach Miller and Coach Quartarone for allowing me to be a part of the Wolfpack family,” said Kimura. “I look forward to improving our student-athletes’ abilities on the range of competition, and maximizing their potential. I’m excited for what the future holds for NC State Rifle.”
Kimura joins the Wolfpack following a strong career at The Ohio State where he was a four-year member of the Buckeyes rifle team. He graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sport industry with a minor in business.
The Kailua, Hawaii native lettered all four years with OSU’s rifle team, serving as the team captain as a senior and junior. As a senior in 2016, Kimura helped the Buckeyes earn their first team NCAA Championships since 1991.
He finished third in the individual air rifle competition at the 2013 Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference (WIRC) Championships. At the 2013 USA Nationals, he finished 10th in the three-position smallbore event. He helped lead OSU to the WIRC team championship as a freshman.
Kimura has received numerous accolades during his collegiate career including the NCAA Ethnic Minority Postgraduate Scholarship and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. He is a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, three-time Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholastic All-American and a two Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Additionally, he is a two-time recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and participated in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
Kimura is pursuing a master’s degree in exercise and sport science at UNC-Chapel Hill with a specialization in sport administration.
