NC State men's soccer head coach Marc Hubbard announced the addition of Jon Shaad to his Wolfpack coaching staff on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024.
In his first season in Raleigh, Shaad helped lead the Pack in one of the program's most successful seasons since the '90s, including a 2024 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Â
Prior to joining NC State, Shaad completed two seasons as an assistant coach at New Hampshire under Hubbard, was a two-time member of the America East Coaching Staff of the Year with the Wildcats. Shaad was also a member of the Wildcats' staff tabbed the Northeast Region Staff of the Year in 2023.Â
Â
“Coach Shaad is a person of great character and work ethic,” Hubbard said. “He is exactly what our men’s soccer team and culture need at this time.
Â
“He did a great job for me in New Hampshire in continuing our record of success with his organization, off-the-field preparation and recruiting. He has a great understanding on how we will operate as a staff going forward, which will help make our transition to NC State as smooth as possible.”
Â
Prior to arriving at New Hampshire, Shaad spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach for the Iowa Western men's soccer team, helping lead the Reivers to the NJCAA national championship in Fall 2021.
Iowa Western made the national championship game in both of Shaad's seasons with the program as the team went 36-2-3 overall. The Reivers tallied a 20-1-1 record in Fall 2021 and defeated Arizona Western in the national championship game.
Shaad led the coaching of the defensive position group at Iowa Western. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for Europe and Canada where he was responsible for identifying, tracking and recruiting prospective student-athletes.
Shaad's coaching experience also includes time as the director of coaching for Nebraska Roots SC (2016-22), head coach of Elkhorn South High School boys soccer team (2018-22) and assistant coach for the men's soccer team at Benedictine College (2013-15).
Shaad played at Barton County Community College (NJCAA) from 2005-07 before transferring to Benedictine College (NAIA) from 2007-09.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in education from Wichita State, Shaad went on to teach history and government at Wichita South High School in Kansas.Â
