John Marshall joined the NC State men’s basketball staff in May 2026 as the head athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program.
He comes to the Pack after spending seven seasons with the Charlotte 49ers sports medicine staff where his primary responsibility was providing athletic healthcare for the men’s basketball program.
Prior to his arrival at Charlotte, he spent four years as an assistant athletic trainer at Gardner-Webb, working with the men’s basketball, men’s cross country, and men’s track and field programs while serving as a Preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program.
In 2014, Marshall received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Western Carolina University. As a student athletic trainer, he gained experience with NC State Wrestling and Vanderbilt Football. Following graduation, he accepted a position as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Gardner-Webb University. He primarily worked with football and transitioned to Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2015. He earned a Master of Art Degree in Sport Pedagogy from Gardner-Webb University in 2016.
He is a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and is licensed in North Carolina. He is trained as a Graston Technique Specialist (GTS), a form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. He holds additional certifications as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Smart Cuff Blood Flow Restriction (BFR), Precision Nutrition Certified Level 1 Coach (Pn1), and Dry Needling. He is also certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a CPR Instructor and Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider, Adult Mental Health First Aid and QPR.
Originally from Raleigh, Marshall and his wife, Kapri, have two children: Bexley (4) and Ashby (1).
