Melissa Quartarone enters her first season as an assistant coach on head coach Keith Miller's staff, after joining the program in July 2016.
"We're extremely excited to add Melissa to our program,” said Miller. “She brings with her tremendous energy, enthusiasm, skill, accomplishments, and a very positive attitude.
“Her technical skills with the MegaLink target system and SCATT simulator, in addition to her organizational and leadership skills, will help us with the improvements that we must make to be a top-five program, which is where we're headed.”
Quartarone comes to the Wolfpack following two successful seasons as an assistant at Ole Miss, helping lead her alma mater to a top-15 finish in the rankings. In 2015-16, the Rebels set a team air rifle record with a score of 2354 and had two student-athletes garner all-conference honors.
For her efforts, Quartarone was named the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Assistant Coach of the Year. With her guidance, Allison Weisz advanced to the NCAA Championships in air rifle and claimed third place in the competition. In addition, Weisz became the fifth shooter in Ole Miss history to earn All-America honors and the first since Quartarone claimed the accolade in 2012.
During the 2014-15 campaign, Quartarone helped Weisz set the program record in smallbore and she also earned an NCAA bid thanks to Quartarone’s instruction.
“She understands our goals and is well equipped to help our shooters individually and as a team fine tune their capabilities as we work towards them,” Miller added. “We feel very fortunate that Melissa is joining our Wolfpack Rifle Family."
As a student-athlete, Quartarone was voted the Ole Miss rifle team MVP following her senior season, in which she posted the top smallbore and aggregate averages on the squad. She enjoyed one of her best seasons as a sophomore with the Rebels when she was a second team National Rifle Association (NRA) All-American in smallbore, as well as an All-GARC selection in smallbore and air rifle.
A native of Stone Mountain, Ga., she was a four-time Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Academic All-American and earned her degree in forensic chemistry in May 2014.
