As a sophomore (2010)
• Led the team with 64 walks, an NC State single-season record
• Finished the year tied for second nationally in walks
• Walked at least twice in 17 different games
• Drove in six runs in the first two innings in the season-opener Feb. 19 vs. La Salle
• Had two hits in each game at Baseball at the Beach at Myrtle Beach, going 6-for-12 for the tournament
• Went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs on March 9 vs. North Carolina A&T
• Had an eight-game hitting streak March 23 at Clemson through April 10 at North Carolina and batted 345 (10-for-29) during the streak
• Went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs on April 18 at Maryland
• Belted a two-run homer April 21 at East Carolina
• Went 4-for-10 with two homers, nine runs scored and six walks in the three-game series vs. Towson
As a freshman (2009)
• Split time between catcher and designated hitter, starting 22 games behind the plate and 16 at DH
• Also made seven starts in left field and one at third base
• Began the season on a roll, batting safely in his first four games, six of his first seven, and eight of his first 10
• Went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs on February 22 vs. Santa Clara, establishing season highs for hits and RBIs
• Was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs on March 29 in the first game of a doubleheader vs. Virginia Tech, and went 5-for-12 with two doubles and five RBIs on March 28-29 in the series vs. the Hokies
• Had an eight-game hitting streak from March 20 at Wake Forest through April 1 vs. East Carolina and batted .344 (11-for-32) with five doubles and eight RBIs during the streak
• Hit a three-run double in the final game of the Duke series April 12
• Made his mound debut in the game April 14 vs. Wofford, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning and striking out all three men he faced on 14 pitches
• Hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning in the Wolfpack's 7-6 victory April 26 over Virginia
• Had a single, a double and drove in three runs in four at-bats May 12 in the Wolfpack's come-from-behind 10-6 victory over Appalachian State
Summer league
• Played for the Harwich Mariners in 2010 and was Harwich's team MVP after batting .241 with seven doubles, two home runs and a team-best 20 RBIs in 38 games
• Led the Cape League with 32 walks and ranked third in the league with a .411 on-base percentage
• Was the starting catcher for the East Division team in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game, played at Boston's Fenway Park
• Played for the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plain League in 2009 and batted .318 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 38 RBIs in 49 regular-season games
• Finished ninth in the league in batting, third in runs scored (42) and second in doubles
• Batted .526 (10-for-19) with six doubles and five RBIs in five playoff games, all Forest City victories, as the Owls swept to the league championship and finished with an overall record of 51-9, good for an .850 winning percentage
High school
• A four-time all-state selection
• Named conference MVP and pitcher of the year in the Mid-State 3-A Conference as a senior after batting .351 with seven home runs, 26 runs scored and 29 RBIs for head coach Kevin Farrell at South Granville High School
• Went 7-2 with a 0.90 ERA on the mound
• Worked 70 1/3 innings and allowed 37 hits, walked 27 and struck out 126
• Named to the 2008 Impact Baseball Dream Team for North Carolina
