CHARLOTTE – Zoe Brooks of the NC State women's basketball team has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. This is Brooks' first weekly award from the league this season and third in her career.
In just one game played this week, Brooks led the Pack to a 78-76 road overtime victory at Virginia behind a career-high 37 points with five rebounds and five assists. Brooks shot 8-of-15 from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and an impressive 19-of-20 from the free throw line.
Brooks' 19 free throws made and 20 attempts broke single-game school records, as well as the John Paul Jones Arena records. Her 19 free throws surpassed Amber White (17 at Wake Forest on Feb. 27, 2022) and Linda Page (17 vs. Clemson on March 5, 1983), who previously held the record, and she became the first player in school history to shoot 20 free throws in a game. Those 19 free throws made are the most made by an ACC player and second most by a player in the NCAA this season.
Her 37 points is the ninth most scored in a single game in school history and most since 1998 (Chasity Melvin had 37 points vs. Louisiana Tech). It's also the fifth most scored by an ACC player and 27th most by an NCAA player this season.
Brooks upped her scoring average by 1.2 points per game, now averaging 15.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, a team-leading 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.07), fifth in free throw percentage (.822), sixth in scoring and seventh in assists per game in the ACC. Brooks is No. 33 on the all-time scoring list with 1,140 career points and now has 63 10+ point games, eight 20+ point contests and two 30-point games in her career.
The Plainfield, New Jersey native has earned the Wolfpack's first weekly honor from the league this season. She was named ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 24 last year following her previous career-high 33 points vs. No. 1 Notre Dame and was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 11, 2023 after her triple-double against Liberty (14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists).
This year, Brooks' honors include:
- ACC Player of the Week (1/26)
- Cancun Challenge Yucatan All-Tournament Team (11/28)
- Wooden Award Preseason Watchlist (11/18)
- Jersey Mike's Naismith Women's College Player of the Year Trophy Preseason Watchlist (10/30)
- Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Preseason Top 20 Watchlist (10/27)
- All-ACC Preseason Team (10/14)
NC State will hit the road once again to play Boston College on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. The game from Conte Forum will be aired on ACC Network.
