BERLIN, GERMANY - After a thrilling week of world-class performances, the Wolfpack returns to Raleigh with an impressive haul of 17 medals, including seven golds, and a staggering seven FISU records from the 2025 World University Games.
NC State's Leah Shackley, Kennedy Noble, Daniel Diehl, Lisa Nystrand, and Olivia Nel proudly represented their countries on the international stage, while Wolfpack Associate Head Coach Dan Kalupski served on the Team USA coaching staff as an assistant coach.
The most memorable moments of the competition came on day six, when Leah Shackley, Kennedy Noble, and Olivia Nel delivered a historic 1-2-3 podium sweep in the 50m backstroke, showcasing the strength of NC State's women's program.
Living up to her high expectations, Leah Shackley was a dominant force for Team USA. Her gold medal wins came in the 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and as part of Team USA's 4x100 mixed medley and 4x100 women's medley relays. Shackley also earned silver in the 100m backstroke.Â
Kennedy Noble also delivered a stellar performance, starting with a silver in the 200m backstroke on day two. She went on to break the FISU record twice in the 100m backstroke, once in prelims and again in the finals, where she secured gold with a time of 58.78. Noble capped off her week by teaming up with Shackley to earn gold in the 4x100 medley relay, adding to her collection of medals and marking a defining moment for Team USA.

He added to his medal count with bronze medals in the 100m backstroke (52.94) and the 50m backstroke (24.75), further cementing his reputation as one of the top backstrokers in collegiate swimming.
Senior Olivia Nel, representing South Africa, reached the finals in all of her events and earned two bronze medals as part of the mixed 4x100 medley and mixed 4x100 freestyle relays. Her consistency made her a dominant force in South Africa's relay success.
Sophomore Lisa Nystrand represented Sweden, qualifying for the finals in both of her events. She placed 5th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:45.16, and finished 7th in the 200m breaststroke in 2:30.49, contributing valuable points and experience on the international stage.
