RALEIGH – Aziaha James of the No. 9/9 NC State women's basketball team has been honored by the Associated Press and U.S. Basketball Writers Association as a All-America Honorable Mention choice. James is the ninth player in school history to be honored with this postseason recognition from the AP and fourth from the USBWA.
James has racked up several awards and recognition for her performance this season and in her Wolfpack career. She is now a two-time All-ACC First Team recipient, having led the team with 17.9 points per game with 68 3-pointers across 32 contests. James has reached double digits in scoring in all but one game this season and has led the team in scoring in 17.
She has 13 20-point games, the most she has had in a single season at NC State, highlighted by her 36-point performance on 15-of-19 shooting from the field in the Pack's comeback victory over No. 10/10 Duke. After that showing, she was named ACC Player of the Week, USBWA National Player of the Week, AP Player of the Week Runner-Up and March Madness Player of the Week.
In the NC State single-season top 15 lists, James is ranked No. 13 in points (574) and 3-point field goals made (68). The guard was tabbed to the ACC All-Tournament First Team after leading the Pack in all three games to the team's fifth championship game appearance in the last six years, averaging 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
James surpassed 1,000 career points in the third game this season against Kent State, and has since become the 19th member of the 1,500-point club at NC State with 1,536 points, which is No. 17 in school history. She recently passed assistant coach Ashley Williams and former teammate Kai Crutchfield on the all-time 3-pointers made list, sitting at No. 7 with 176. Her 127 career games played is ranked No. 14 all-time at NC State.
The Virginia Beach, Virginia native is on the top 15 national ballot for the Wooden Award. She was also on the preseason and midseason watch lists for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Player of the Year, as well as the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Midseason Player of the Year Watch List.
James and the Pack are set to host Vermont for the NCAA Tournament First Round on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. The game is sold out, but tickets can be available on SeatGeek.
