CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its weekly honors Tuesday afternoon, recognizing NC State sophmores Erika Pelaez and Kaii Winkler as the ACC Female and Male Swimmers of the Week.Â
This marks Pelaez's first ACC honor of the season and the second weekly conference regognition of her career. The sophomore made her mark over the weekend, breaking her second career school record in the 100 IM with a time of 54.08. Across 13 events spanning two days and four sessions, Pelaez showcased her versatility winning three of her five individual events and contributing to victories in all relay events.Â
Her weekend performance included three personal bests in the 50 fly, 100 IM, and 400 IM, as well as a season- best 1:44.83 in the 200 freestyle. Pelaez now holds five national marks, including the second-fastest 50 butterfly in the country at 23.41, trailing only teammate Tyler Driscoll.Â
For Winkler, this is his second ACC Weekly honor of the season, following his recognition after the Wolfpack's opening meet at the Dual Meet Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. At this past weekend's Raleigh Rumble, Winkler turned in another stellar performance recording two NCAA A-cut times and posting a season-best 200 freestyle, leading an NC State 1-2-3 sweep in the event.Â
Winkler also tallied four personal bests across the 50 free, 50 fly (twice), and 100 IM. His first place finish in the 100 IM came with the second-fastest time in program history. The sophomore now owns four national-marks, including the fastest 100 freestyle time in the country this season at 41.21.
Both Winkler and Pelaez will return to action next week as the Wolfapack head to Greensboro, N.C., for the Wolfpack Elite Invite at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, taking place Nov. 20-22
