NEW ORLEANS - NC State cross country senior Hannah Gapes was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches NCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon.
Gapes earned the honor following a standout performance at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational, where she captured the women's 6K individual title with a personal-best time of 19:19.69. Her victory led the Wolfpack women to yet another first-place team finish.
The recognition marks Gapes' first career USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor and the sixth time in program history that a female athlete from NC State has earned this national distinction. Gapes joins two-time 2022 honoree Katelyn Tuohy, 2020 honoree Dominique Clairmonte and two-time 2015 honoree Ryen Fraizer.
This is also Gapes' second weekly award of the season as she was named ACC Performer of the Week on Sept. 23.
