PHILADELPHIA, PA. – NC State running back Hollywood Smothers has been added to the 89th mid-season Maxwell Award Watch List on Thursday afternoon.
Smothers is currently the ACC's leading rusher with 570 yards and ranks fourth in the FBS. He is averaging 114 yards per game.
This season, Smothers rushed for 100+ yards in three straight games and became the first Pack player since Nyheim Hines in 2017 to rush for 100+ yards in three straight games. He tallied a career-high 164 yards in the win at Wake Forest —the highest for a Wolfpack player since 2018 (Reggie Gallaspy).
Not only does he lead the Wolfpack in rushing, but he is tied for second with 19 receptions this season, gaining another 86 yards. He currently ranks 14th in the FBS with 142.8 all-purpose yards per game (second in the ACC).
Smothers joins Quarterback CJ Bailey on the watch list, as Bailey was named to the watch list back in July.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert "Tiny" Maxwell, who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.
