
Diana Shnaider Advances to the Gold Medal Match in Women’s Doubles

PARIS, France—The first-ever women's tennis player in the Olympics from NC State will look to bring home the first-ever tennis medal for the Wolfpack. Diana Shniader guaranteed herself a medal after advancing to the gold medal match in women's doubles at the Paris Olympic Games.
Shnaider along with her partner Mira Andreeva, defeated Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain (8) 6-1, 6-2 Friday afternoon.
The gold medal match will be played on August 4th on Court Philippe-Chatrier following the conclusion of the bronze medal match beginning at 6 a.m. EST. Shnaider and Andreeva will take on Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini of Italy.
Shniader is not only on the verge of making history for NC State, but she is looking to become the first former college tennis player to win Olympic gold in women's doubles since Gigi Fernandez (Clemson) in 1992.
