STANFORD, Calif. – The 14th-ranked NC State women's tennis team saw its 2024 dual match campaign come to a close in the NCAA Championship Super Regional, falling to second-ranked Stanford by a 4-0 score Friday afternoon from the Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack wrapped up its 2024 dual season with a 22-9 record. NC State spent the entirety of the season ranked in the national top 15 and climbed as high as a No. 4 national ranking. The Wolfpack hosted the NCAA first and second rounds and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive season.
In a rematch of last season's semifinal match, Stanford came out on top this season in what will be the first of many more matches between the two programs as Stanford joins the ACC.
The first and only match win of the day came on court one in doubles as No. 12 Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo won their 27th match of the season together, defeating 10th-ranked Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova 6-3. On courts two and three, the Pack took the early set lead but could not pull out the second match win needed to secure the doubles point, putting Stanford in the lead.
The Wolfpack faced an uphill climb after doubles. The Wolfpack started singles play by winning multiple first games across the six singles courts, evening seeing a 4-0 first set lead on court five. Stanford proved too much winning all six first sets to take a commanding lead.
The second sets saw NC State battle as senior Gina Dittmann secured the lone singles set win, but the match concluded before the third set could be played.
Courts 1-3 saw each team's three ranked singles players square off with one another. No. 2 Rajecki only loss for the fifth time this season, and it was only the second time she lost in straight sets. No. 62 Anna Zyryanova came into the Super Regional a winner in four out of her last five matches. Senior No. 71 Abigail Rencheli finishes her NC State career in the top 10 in program history in both singles and doubles wins at NC State.
The season isn't entirely over, however. Rajecki, Zyryanova, Abrams, and Zampardo will all travel to Stillwater, Okla., and represent the Wolfpack to compete in the individual singles and doubles NCAA Tournament May 20-25.
