Jacob Cozart Named to USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List

CARY, N.C. – NC State junior catcher Jacob Cozart was named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the organization on Friday afternoon.
Cozart, a native of High Point, North Carolina, is one of just 55 student-athletes featured on the preseason watch list. The Golden Spikes Award is awarded annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Cozart is the 13th NC State player since 2008 to be named to the preseason watch list. His inclusion on the list also marks the seventh time in the last six seasons an NC State player has earned a spot on the preseason list.
The junior catcher has been tabbed a Preseason All-American by four major publications, earning First Team honors from Perfect Game, Second Team accolades from D1Baseball, and Third Team recognition from Baseball America and the NCBWA. Cozart earned Second Team All-ACC honors this past season after batting .301 with 10 homers, 14 doubles, two triples, 42 RBI and 107 total bases.
Cozart exceled in conference play as a sophomore, leading all NC State batters with 21 runs scored, 16 extra-base hits, 25 RBI and 62 total bases. He was named a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List and to the Buster Posey Award Watch List during his standout sophomore season.
Fan voting will again play a part in the Golden Spikes Award in 2024. Baseball fans can vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com, beginning on May 20 with the naming of the semifinalists. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for the award on June 5, and fan voting will once again open at GoldenSpikesAward.com before closing on June 21.
