Wolfpack football legend Torry Holt is one of 15 former NFL standouts who have reached the "doorstep of enshrinement" into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as he has been named Finalists in the Modern-Era Player category for the Class of 2025 presented by Visual Edge.
Â
Holt played for the St. Louis Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf" from 1999-2008 and spent the 2009 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 1999 first-round draft pick played in 173 career games, winning a Super Bowl title with the Rams in 1999 as the team's Rookie of the Year. He notched eight consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons (2000-07) with a career-best 117 catches for 1,696 yards and 12 TDs in 2003. He tallied 100+ receiving yards 10 times in his career, leading the NFL in receptions in 2003, receiving yardage in 2000 and 2003, and recording 80 or more catches in a season for eight consecutive years. Â
Â
During his NFL career, the Gibsonville native racked up 920 receptions for 13,382 yards and 74 TDs. He was named All-Pro in 2003 (second-team in 2006), was All-NFC twice, and was voted into seven Pro Bowls. He was also selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 2000s.
Â
Holt was a consensus first-team All-American for the Wolfpack in 19998 and rewrote the NC State and ACC record books during his senior campaign. He set school and league marks for career receiving yards (3,379) and the Wolfpack records for receptions (191), TD receptions (31), and 100-yard receiving games (14). He was named the 1998 ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year and has been inducted into the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame and the Wolfpack Football Ring of Honor.
Â
The candidates in the Modern-Era Player category will be considered when the Hall of Fame's Selection Committee meets before Super Bowl LIX. The Class of 2025 will be unveiled publicly on Feb. 6 during the "NFL Honors presented by Invisalign," broadcast from Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, La., on FOX and NFL Network and streamed on NFL+. The show will air at 9 p.m. ET.
