Matty Singleton earns bronze medal at U20 World Championships

RALEIGH, NC – NC State wrestler Matty Singleton is bringing some hardware back to the United States.
Singleton, the sophomore from Moreland, Georgia, earned a bronze medal on Tuesday, defeating Ahmet Yagan of Turkiye, 9-7, at the U20 World Championships.
At the time of Singleton's win it was the fourth medal of the day for the United States.
Held in Amman, Jordan, Singleton cruised through the qualifying round into the ⅛ final with a convincing 12-2 win in the first round over Denizbek Ulan Uulu. He followed that up with a 10-0 win over Nandor Hajduch.
Two more consecutive wins propelled Singleton into the semifinals. In the semis, Singleton dropped a match, 16-6, to Sagar Jaglan, of India.
In the medal match Singleton took an early 4-0 lead. Singleton extended his lead to 6-1 before Yagan went on a run, eventually tying the match at seven. Singleton earned one final point late in the match to earn the bronze.
Singleton finished his freshman season for the Wolfpack with an overall record of 8-5, including a 1-1 mark in ACC action.
