White and Wilson Named to Bednarik Award Watch List

RALEIGH, NC – After being recognized on numerous preseason award watchlists, NC State defensive standouts Aydan White and Payton Wilson saw their names added to another on Monday, earning mention on the 2023 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List.
The Bednarkis Award, which is presented by the Maxwell Football Club, is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
This marks the fourth preseason award for White, who has also been recognized on the Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski Watch Lists and was named to the preseason All-ACC Football Team.
Wilson, who was also on the Bednarik list prior to the 2022 season, was announced last week on the Butkus Award Preseason Watch List honor.
White and Wilson become the third NC State defensive duo to make the preseason list, joining Mario Williams and Manny Lawson (2005) and Drake Thomas and Wilson (2022). In 2017, defensive end Bradley Chubb was named a finalist for the award.
Semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced on November 13, 2023, while the three finalists will be unveiled on November 28, 2023. The 29th Chuck Bednarik Award winners will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 7, 2023. The formal presentations of the Chuck Bednarik Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards in March 2024.
