Lewis, Singleton, Fishback win divisions at U23, U20 championships

RALEIGH The NC State wrestling program had a great showing at the U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials over the weekend in Geneva, Ohio.
Â
Three members of Wolfpack Wrestling Club finished first in their respective divisions. The Wolfpack Wrestling Club finished first in overall team points (70).Â
Â
Hunter Lewis got started first, winning the Greco-Roman 72 kg division. Lewis defeated Jack Ervien, Jr., 2-0 in the best-of-three matches for the title. In the championship round Lewis defeated Ervien 16-11 and 4-0.

 The win secured a spot on the U23 Greco-Roman World Team for Lewis.

On Saturday Matty Singleton became the second NC State wrestler to finish as a champion over the weekend. In the U20 competition Singleton faced Gabriel Arnold in the finals.

Singleton won the first match 6-1, but dropped the second match to Arnold. In the winner take all final, Singleton edged Arnold 5-4.

Singleton earned a spot on the U20 Freestyle World Team, advancing to the World Championships, August 14-20 in Poland.Â

Dylan Fishback wrapped up the weekend with a first-place finish on Sunday. Fishback took on Donnell Washington of Indiana RTC. Washington won the first match 11-0, but Fishback bounced back for the first-place finish. In the second match, Fishback came away with an 18-7 victory. In the deciding match, Fishback won with a convincing 19-9 win. The U23 World Championships will be in Tampere, Finland, October 23-29.

Ryan Jack (65 kg) and Ed Scott (70 kg) each finished second in their respective weight classes.Â
